Profile
of
Mr. Rakesh Bakshi,
LFIMA, FIE, FNAE
Born in London, U.K. on 4 June 1958
Mr. Rakesh Bakshi at a very young age recognized the great
potential that alternative sources of energy offered and so committed
all his energy and resources towards developing them. Renewables play
a significant role, especially in the context of the need for abating
Global Warming and mitigating adverse Climate Change. Mr. Rakesh
Bakshi has successfully promoted and implemented advanced climate
friendly technologies past the demonstration phase, more particularly
by converting renewable sources of energy into heat and power.
Mr. Rakesh Bakshi is acknowledged as a
pioneer in the field of non-conventional energy sources in India,
having contributed extensively to harnessing and promoting renewables
for everyday energy needs. In recognition of his immense contribution
in the crucial area of alternate sources of energy, on the occasion of
the Republic Day in 1991 the Government of India honoured Mr. Rakesh
Bakshi with the Padma Shri, one of India’s high civilian awards.
RAKESH BAKSHI’S
MANY FIRSTS
Mr. Rakesh Bakshi has been
in the forefront in many spheres of life. He is a First-class
graduate in Mechanical Engineering with postgraduate
qualifications in Computer Science and Foreign Trade. He currently
holds the position of:
Chairman
Eco RRB Infra Private
Limited (www.rrbindia.com)
Chairman
Solchrome Private
Limited (www.solchrome.com)
Chairman and Managing Director
RRB Energy Limited

All the three organizations
established by him have achieved path breaking results, which are:
Eco RRB Infra Private
Limited – A Forerunner in establishing Wind Power as a major source of
power generation in India.
Under the able leadership
of Mr. Rakesh Bakshi, the Company has attained the unique distinction
of being a forerunner in the establishment of Wind Power as a major
source of power generation in the country. Trendsetter and leader of
“Wind Power” in India, the Company has developed a high level of skill
and expertise in the field of power generation through Wind Energy.
The Company is a well established Indian Company predominantly engaged
in the field of New and Renewable Sources of Energy in India, since
1984. The Company is also an Independent Power Producer based on wind
energy and plans to develop and establish infrastructure projects in
the power sector based on clean energy technologies.
Solchrome Private
Limited –
The First Continuous Plating Solar Selective Coating Plant established
in India.
Mr. Rakesh Bakshi is
also accredited with the setting up of Solchrome Private Limited – a
pioneering Company in the field of Solar Thermal Energy. The Company
was established in the year 1984. The Company is engaged in the
manufacture of Black Continuously Plated Solchrome Solar Selective
Coating Sheets, Black Continuously Plated Solchrome Solar Selectively
Coated TIG/Ultrasonic Welded Fins and Tubes, Solchrome Flat Plate
Solar Collectors and Solar Water Heating Systems at its factory in
Parwanoo, Himachal Pradesh, India. Aimed at import substitution and
technology upgradation in the field of Solar Thermal Energy the
Company, based on Canadian Technology, has produced and marketed
hundreds of thousands of square metres of Black Continuously Plated
Solchrome Solar Selective Coating Sheets. The same are widely used in
the production of Flat Plate Solar Collectors manufactured in India.
The Company’s products are also exported to various countries.

RRB
Energy Limited – The First Company to produce Pitch Regulated Wind
Electric Generators in India.
Another pioneering venture
attributed to Mr. Rakesh Bakshi is RRB Energy Limited (RRBEL). The
Company was established in the year 1987 with the main objective of
producing world class Wind Electric Generators (WEGs) in India for
harnessing of power from wind. RRBEL WEGs are of the “Pitch Regulated”
type and are based on the well-known and world proven technology of
Vestas Wind Systems A/S, Denmark. RRBEL WEGs are well suited for
Indian climatic conditions and are able to deliver high plant load
factors even in low/medium wind regimes due to the design parameters
incorporated into them. RRBEL, an ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004
certified Company, is also an Independent Power Producer based on wind
energy. The Company’s WEGs are also being exported.
India’s First Major Private
Sector Commercial Independent Power Project of its kind, based on Wind
Energy aggregating 15 MW and established by the Company for Mohan
Breweries and Distilleries Ltd. was “Dedicated” by the then Hon’ble
Prime Minister of India on 5 July 2000 at Kayathar, District Tuticorin,
Tamil Nadu, India. The Project is unique and one of its kind as it is
the First Project in the Wind Energy Sector in India to have been
financed under the Danish International Development Assistance (DANIDA)
mixed credit facility. The DANIDA mixed credit facility for this
project had been directly extended to the Private Sector.
The First Indian Type Approval
Certificate, issued for the first time in Asia and Developing
Countries by the Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET), an
Autonomous Institution of the then Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy
Sources (presently known as Ministry of New and Renewable Energy),
Government of India, for the Vestas Type V39-500 KW Wind Electric
Generator with 47 metre Rotor Diameter was presented to the then
Managing Director of the Company, Mr. Rakesh Bakshi by the then
Hon’ble Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for
Non-Conventional Energy Sources, Government of India on 13 August 2001
at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.
In the year 2008, the Company had
added to its fold, state-of-the-art Manufacturing Facilities for WEG
Blades and WEG Controllers and parts thereof at Poonamallee, Chennai,
Tamil Nadu, India and for WEG Controllers and parts thereof at New
Delhi, India.
Also under the able
guidance of Mr. Rakesh Bakshi, the Company’s ongoing Research and
Development activities has on 28 September 2010 resulted in the
successful launch of its indigenously made prototype blade for its 1.8
MW WEG. The state-of-the-art 40 metre WEG blade produced by the
Company is based on proven technology and the Company’s vast knowledge
and experience of more than two decades in the area of harnessing wind
energy for power generation. Based on this landmark achievement and
due to the ongoing outstanding leadership being provided by Mr. Rakesh
Bakshi, the Company will soon join the exclusive league of MW class
WEG producers. The new blade has been manufactured with a unique
concept of “Zero-tolerance” and has been designed to meet / surpass
international standards.
Mr. Rakesh Bakshi, a Wind
Energy Pioneer, has through his dynamic leadership contributed to the
successful establishment of hundreds of Megawatts of wind power
capacity based on different sizes of Wind Electric Generators at
numerous locations in various States of India.
